Happy (Gregorian) New Year from Gods and Kings. Whatever I may have promised in the past, you can mark my words that 2011 is the year the film will be released. After all, we only have a year til 2012, when, thanks to an important modern myth, the eyes of the world will turn toward the Maya and their calendar. In the meantime, please enjoy this latest draft of the trailer, which incorporates a few newly translated interviews. The next thing I release will be the rough cut.

Chocolate Country on Viewchange.org

Last week, a five minute version of our last documentary, Chocolate Country, won an award in the ViewChange Film Contest. A panel of celebrity judges gave the film a $5000 prize in the Empowerment category (some of which will go toward finishing Gods and Kings), and the piece is now featured on the excellent new ViewChange.org site, which links short films about global development with the resources to take action. happy (Gregorian) New Year from Gods and Kings

yesterday, I found this old Tarzan movie. it’s in the public domain, and the terrifying intro to Guatemala seems perfect for this film. of course, I’d probably cut out before the shots of rhinos and lions. there are indeed, many dangers in Guatemala, but rhinos and lions are not among them. also, Maya priests don’t usually sport long white Gandalf beards (unless of course they’re dancing in the disfraz).

I updated this site because I wanted a platform to share ideas I’m wrestling with, and scenes I’m working on with the crew, the participants, fans, friends, strangers, whoever. anyone can log in and add to the discussion with replies and comments.
